Many people think if they work hard enough, pray hard enough or otherwise do works, they will receive or maintain their salvation. They will say "you have to do your part." They never know if they are saved or not. Salvation is by faith in Christ who sends the Holy Spirit to indwell the believer and seals him unto the day of redemption. There are those who preach a false gospel that you can lose your salvation and Pastor Rogers rebukes such with the Word of God.
