Edit for headphones, March 2022. Another beautiful song from the 1974 album "Unconditionally Guaranteed".
Upon release the album was criticised for being too commercial. I think it contains a lot of good songs that really can compete with a lot of present day's music. As you may expect from me I edited the sax solo out. Good riddance!
Personnel on the album:
Don Van Vliet (aka captain Beefheart): vocals, harmonica.
Bill Harkleroad (aka Zoot Horn Rollo): guitar, glass finger guitar.
Art Tripp (aka Arthur Dyer Tripp III): drums, percussion.
Mark Boston (aka Rockette Morton): bass.
Mark Marcellino: keyboards.
Alex St. Claire: guitar.
Andy DiMartino: acoustic guitar. Also producer of the album.
Del Simmons: tenorsax, flute.
HAPPY LOVE SONG
(Don and Jan Van Vliet/Andy Di Martino)
she said baby, how long is your song
I said baby, as long as you want it to be
she said I got all night long
so play me a happy love song
if we feel alright
she said one is a sad song, two is a love song
I don't wanna be lonely so play a long love song
make me happy and I'll sing along
if we feel alright
baby do you hear my melody
can you feel the close starting the flow from you to me
happy long song, happy love song
I play it just for you, all night long
and I'll stay with you from now on
and I play for you a melody which goes
on and on and on
happy love song
I won't play it too strong
happy love song
happy love song
help me feel alright
make me feel aaawwwwwl-right
yeah baby, happy love song
happy love sooong
let me feel aglow
starting to grow
starting to grow
beau'fully
baby
happy love song
happy love song
happy love song
oooh yeah oooh yeah
oooh yeah yeah yeah
happy love song
oooh
