FIREMAN SHOT & KILLED BY HIS WIFE / GF IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI (04/07/24)

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A firefighter is dead and a woman has been taken into custody after a standoff in Jackson Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Ferguson Drive when firefighters conducted a wellness-check on a fellow firefighter.

The firefighter worked for both Jackson and Byram fire departments.

When they arrived, they found the firefighter dead.

There was also a barricaded individual inside the home who would not come out. Hostage negotiators were contacted.

The 41-year-old female was holding a gun, and a S.W.A.T unit had to be called to the scene.

After an hour, the S.W.A.T unit used tear gas inside the home, forced entry was made, and the woman was taken into custody without incident.

A dog inside the house had to be put down due to its aggression towards law enforcement.

The woman and man were living together, officials say.

The firefighter’s identity has not yet been released.

Police have notified the family.
