With less than seven weeks until Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union and no clear way to break the impasse in sight, a no-deal Brexit is looking increasingly likely.

Unless Theresa May can find a way to reconcile the warring wings of the Tory party and negotiate concessions on the Irish border backstop, the UK leave will the bloc at 11pm on March 29 and immediately drop back on to WTO rules.

This would mean automatic tariffs applied to goods traveling between Britain and the EU, but Brexiteers including Nigel Farage, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Owen Paterson have said ‘Article 24’ could be used to secure tariff-free trade with the EU for up to a decade.

However, trade law experts have warned the provision has been repeatedly misrepresented and insisted it does not provide an easy solution.
