Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Aquarium is one of my top places to visit when the opportunity arises. The abundance and variety of lifeforms there is truly miraculous and people walk away from this place enriched in so many different ways.
It is also especially important to me as a father to expose my boys to the wonders of nature in this way. Many of you DO NOT support detaining marine and riparian life forms within aquariums and I really appreciate why. I can't help feed sad watching those seals - they look bored and unchallenged to me. I know these animals very well where I live.
ANYWAY - I do argue that we can’t afford not to have places like this because if we do not teach people about terrestrial, riparian and marine life forms then we condemn humanity to ignorance. Human ignorance breeds poisoned environments across the planet and it is places like the Vancouver Aquarium that educates us away from that place - one person at a time.
Once people understand and respect the environment and the life forms within it then people will strive to conserve it’s integrity.
The Vancouver Aquarium has placed a huge emphasis on, not only conserving aquatic mammals and fish, but they have also invested considerably on presenting the marine environment itself. They have modelled as closely as I think possible the ocean floor and other habitats. So as you look through this streaming video look at each habitat environment within each massive marine display.
The Aquarium has over 50,000 animals from across the world to examine (if you can find them all). This impressive array of diverse specimens requires a curious and well-funded research group to study each animal, their habitat and then effect that ecosystem in a working display. This constant research and continuous improvement has made the Vancouver Aquarium globally recognized for excellence and leadership.
Expanding our understanding of the marine environment will save it (and us).
