Customers Swarm Costco Store at Opening in Shanghai

The trade war between the U.S. and China clearly weren’t on the minds of the Chinese that stormed Costco’s first-ever store in the country on Tuesday.

Costco (COST) cut the ribbon at its new store in Shanghai and proceeded to watch shoppers overrun the expansive aisles, as seen in numerous posts on Twitter. For Costco, the day one response — and the inevitable surge in new memberships — should temper concerns on Wall Street that its bulk-selling model wouldn’t work in the hyper local Chinese food market.

From Jim Stone: They had to shut down early on opening day because it was such a mob scene safety alone pretty much made it necessary to shut it down. UNBELIEVABLE!

UPDATE: All attendees of the grand opening received a ten percent hit on their social credit score for loving America too much. (no confirmation on this, but I would not doubt it the way the new Chinese sh*thole government operates. Too much success and Costco will go the way of Falun Gong.
