With any show going into a new season after massive success in their first run, there is a goal to top the quality of the last season. Sometimes this is done with a new character, and The Boys attempted to do this using this method. But their method, the character Stormfront (played by Aya Cash) is an absolutely terrible character, and it’s all based on failing to understand what she is supposed to represent. The original character from the comics is an unapologetic Neo-Nazi, and yet this interpretation is a closet SS member from back in the day, disguised as a right wing culture warrior written by leftists with no factual basis of the right wing to build this character off of. This gets amplified by a shoddy, even more biased performance from the actress, who’s ethnic origins spell out why she has a bias in the first place against this character and preventing her performance from having nuance. With this commentary, I hope to prove how much of a failure this character ended up being not only as a Culture War character, but on the show as a whole.
