Karnataka is the largest state in South India. She is remembered for being home to some of the most powerful empires of ancient and medieval India. Like some states of India, she has her own anthem.

Her state song, “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate”, is a poem written by notable Kannada poet Kuvempu (real name Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa.) It was adopted on January 6, 2004.

The poem envisages a Karnataka that recognizes her position in the comity of Indian states, believes in peaceful co-existence with her neighbors, but at the same time maintains her self-respect and dignity from a position of confidence and strength rather than insecurity and fear.
