God formulated a rescue operation to restore harmony to the universe. To restore harmony, God has to bring humanity back to its original relationship with God and the rest of the creation. To implement that plan, 2 issues need to be addressed. Firstly, someone has to pay the penalty of death on behalf of humanity. Only God could do that.
