I’d just left the beach this morning, on my way back home to the city with my family.
I continually have you in my thoughts. I think of you as my “YouTube congregant”.
In this video, I want to tell you about an incident this morning that sparked a reflection.
We had packed all our bags and taken the lift down to the ground floor when the wife realised she forgot her handbag and she had to go back upstairs to fetch it.
“You didn’t take five seconds, did you?” I taunted her, unfortunately.
I was referring to a habit that I practise and therefore preach: before leaving any location, like a hotel room, restaurant table, church sanctuary, cinema hall, etc, take five seconds to ask yourself, have I left anything behind?
I’ve left things behind in my life. My phone, my keys, my money clip. Mercifully, all found their way back to me, thus far.
And then I realised I’ve never INTENTIONALLY left something behind. Things that get forgotten lie in the “things you don’t know you don’t know” category: Unconscious Ignorance. That’s why I inculcate the habit of taking five seconds for God or my subconscious to bring to my conscious awareness anything that I might have unconsciously forgotten. There are four quadrants of awareness:
Quadrant 1: Things that you know that you know
Such as the fact that the earth orbits the sun.
Quadrant 2: Things that you know you don’t know
Such as how to pilot a fighter jet.
And if you DO know how to do that, definitely tell me about it in the comments below!
Quadrant 3: Things that you don’t know that you know
because you’re so good at it that you don’t even realise you’re doing it. Like my brother’s ability to draw anything on request. And what gets me is that he doesn’t seem to realise what a tremendous ability this is.
1. Quadrant 4: things that you don’t know that you don’t know
2. The things that blindside us are things that lie in the fourth quadrant: things that we don’t even know we don’t know.
