The same-sex marriage debate is now well and truly underway with the government after publishing the wording of the upcoming referendum.
It proposes to add to the Constitution a declaration that "marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex". This will be added as a new section to Article 41 of Bunreacht na hÉireann.
The sections preventing same-sex marriage in Article 41 are as follows:
41.1.1 The State recognises the Family as the natural primary and fundamental unit group of Society, and as a moral institution possessing inalienable and imprescriptible rights, antecedent and superior to all positive law.
41.1.3 The State pledges itself to guard with special care the institution of marriage, on which the family is founded, and to protect it against attack.
At the People's Debate in Charleville, Co.Cork, Vincent Browne asks how people are going to vote.
