FAA confirmed five people were on board the plane, a Bombardier Challenger 600, according to FlightAware.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed two deaths after a twin-engine plane crashed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Naples.
The video above was given exclusively to WINK News by Kyle Cavaliere. The video shows the alleged survivors moments after the plane crash.
An NTSB investigator is on the scene, and more are expected to arrive on Saturday.
WINK News spoke with Robin King, the Naples Airport communications director.
“On their approach to the airport, according to the air traffic controllers, they reported that both the engines had gone out,” said King.
According to Naples Airport’s communications director, there are survivors.
“We know that three of them got out of the aircraft,” said King.
It’s unclear how the three people got out of the aircraft.
“Both of our airport fire trucks were out there,” said King.
Those fire trucks use a foam-like substance to extinguish fires involving jet fuel.
It remains unclear if the two dead were on board the plane on the ground, as an unknown amount of vehicles were also involved in the crash.
This all happened around 3:15 p.m., Friday, when a large plume of smoke was seen coming from the scene near mile marker 107, near the Pine Ridge Road exit on a Florida 511 camera.
According to the North Collier Fire Rescue District, I-75 will be closed for an extensive time. However, northbound lanes reopened just before 8 p.m.
Tracking the plane’s tail number, N823KD, the flight appeared to have been headed to the Naples Airport from Ohio State Executive Airport, according to FlightAware.
It was a private charter, said the school, however, and was not affiliated with the university.
It was then scheduled to fly into Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, according to FlightAware.
Fire trucks are at the scene of the crash, and I-75 has been brought to a standstill.
CCSO recommends southbound drivers get off on Exit 105/Golden Gate Parkway. The Golden Gate Parkway on-ramp to I-75 remains closed.
Expect significant delays in both directions near the scene.
This is an active scene, WINK News will update this article with more information when it is available.
