I use two different method to make acetamide for an upcoming project - Acetic Anhydride.
I use the Ammonia/Ethyl Acetate reaction.
And the Urea/Glacial Acetic Acid reaction.
In both cases the resulting product was distilled and turned out to be fairly pure with a melting point of 80.7c
After all the methods were completed all the product was collected and distilled together to give me enough product for the next step.
I will be making Acetonitrile from this by dehydrating the Acetamide with P2O5. rom there i will be doing similar to Chemplayer by gassing the Acetonitrile with HCl in the presence of GAA to get Acetyl chloride and finally using this to distill Acetic Anhydride from Sodium Acetate.

Test your diethyl ether for peroxides.

This is a video of how to test your diethyl ether for peroxides. In a test tube, place KI (potassium iodide) crystals and dissolve it in some distilled water. Then, add a little diethyl ether. If the ether stays clear, there's no peroxides. However, if the diethyl ether turns pink, then the potassium iodide has reacted with the peroxides to form iodine.

P2P from benzylmagnesium chloride and acetonitrile in diethyl ether. Benzyl chloride is combined with magnesium turnings to form benzylmagnesium chloride. Hydrochloric acid workup yields P2P.

How to make colored Crystal's. First, you add 5 drops of food coloring to a bowl full of crystals. Then you mix it around with a spoon. Then put it in a foil lined pan and heat it in the oven for 275 to 300 degrees for 10 minutes.

Synthesis of benzylmagnesium chloride. BzMgCl C6H5CH2MgCl grignard reagent.

A crystal of iodine, 4.8 g of magnesium sawdust is placed in a flask and a solution of 25.4 g of benzyl chloride in 75ml of absolute ether is gradually added dropwise. After the introduction of 1/4 of the solution, the reaction should begin, followed by boiling ether. If the reaction has not begun, it can be caused by substituting a cup of warm water under the flask. The course of the reaction should be regulated by cooling and changing the rate of prilipanie benzyl chloride.

If P2P is desired, dry distilled toluene can be added and acetonitrile can be added. The ether/toluene mixture is ideal for acetonitrile grignard reaction. Hydrolysis would yield phenylacetone.

Making chloroform. The yield was lower than expected because an 11% excess of acetone was used, which was too much.

Benzyl chloride synthesis from benzyl alcohol

Blanc chloromethylation reaction. Chloromethylation of benzene, and 1,2-methylenedioxybenzene to yield benzyl chloride and 3,4-methylenedioxybenzyl chloride.
