By 1976, there were a ton of animated Christmas specials on TV. From Thanksgiving through Christmas Day, we not only had the big ones like Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, Year Without A Santa Clause, Charlie Brown, and the Grinch, but also countless second-stringers like 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, Christmas Is, Little Drummer Boy, etc...
Then WHAM! It all came to a sudden stop. Christmas special cold turkey, man! So, apparently, someone at Rankin/Bass had the great idea to make animated specials suitable to run AFTER Christmas. Sort of Yuletide methadone. Of course, the morons running the networks missed the whole point, and ran these specials in late November and early December all the same.
HEY YA' RETARDS! RUDOLPH'S SEQUEL SPECIAL HAD "NEW YEAR" RIGHT IN THE TITLE!!!
Frosty's Winter Wonderland never mentions Christmas or Santa. Features the original Frosty voice and animation style, with Andy Griffith stepping in for Jimmy Durante, who'd retired since the first Frosty special was made. Sometime in the 1980s, the broadcast rights to the original Frosty special and Winter Wonderland got split-up, and the rather wretched Frosty Returns was produced as an alternative follow-up by CBS.
