Nova 2001 is a shoot'em up by Japanese company UPL, which was released in the arcades in 1984. You control a spaceship in top-down view and have to shoot down all enemies which appear in a level. Enemies you shoot will leave boxes with numbers on them behind, which you can collect to score points. These boxes also absorb your shots, making it necessary to change position after shooting down a larger group of enemies. If it takes you too much time to finish a level, a large boss-like enemy will appear which has much more shots, is faster and is not taken down easily.
