Hark! Behold the inspiring and tragic story of the robot known only as P1, fighting its way through its human masters and oppressors, even tearing through its own kind on its road to supremacy! Eventually, he stands up to his master... and yet the good guys take all the credit.
I kid, I kid. This is Streets of Rage 2X, an OpenBOR game based on Streets of Rage that allows you to play as literally any enemy in the series, warts and all. These enemies control more or less exactly as how the enemy counterparts do, which is both a good thing and a bad thing, making P1 one of the best characters to play with, due to its large damage output with its forward-rushing C attack, flares (use the "energy" button to trigger them), and Forward+A projectile. Using the juggle system, you can rack up even more damage. P-1 also has two distinct jumps, though it can attack during neither. The game does have toggleable extra features, such as the Rage Moves and countering, which I disabled because those moves end up making the game excessively difficult except as the main characters and some bosses. Additionally, the game also features content from lesser-known ports of the series to the Master System, Game Gear, and Java phones, adding more variety to the stages. The next version, to be called "Streets of Rage X", will add content from Streets of Rage 1, and allow players to control even more enemies.
