Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114 by Johannes Brahms

Brahms completed this work for clarinet, piano and cello in 1891 with the public premiere being given in December the same year in Berlin. Brahms turned 57 in 1890 and had made public comments that his String Quintet in G (1890) would be his final composition. For his 58th Birthday in May of 1891, Brahms was visiting the ducal court in Meiningen when he heard the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld. Brahms was so struck by the beauty of the music that Mühlfeld would create with the clarinet, and he composed this trio.

This work is comprised of four movements:
I. Allegro
II. Adagio
III. Andantino grazioso
IV. Allegro
