In this video I prepare the lead analog of ammonium hexachloroplatinate from lead(II) chloride, chlorine gas, and ammonium chloride. The prep turned out to be extremely easy to do and not nearly as difficult as the literature makes it seem like it would be. It would be a good prep for an intermediate level amateur chemist who is comfortable working with chlorine gas and soluble lead salts (both of which can be deadly). Ammonium hexachloroplumbate decomposes in water to PbCl2, Cl2, and NH4Cl but it is soluble without decomposition in 20% HCl,
