A little before Halloween in 2003 (on October 17), Future Games released the first part of their dark family history series, The Black Mirror. Published by The Adventure Company, the game was criticized rather strongly in the United States, with many faults being cited, including the English voice-over actors' performances. However, a strong darkness to the atmosphere and the initial build-up of the mystery has equally been praised as high points of the game.
As a point-and-click, there is a minimal interface for the game: LMB and RMB handle most controls, including a context-sensitive mouse pointer to indicate differences in actions (like examination of an object vs. obtaining an item). The game is old enough that it doesn't play well with modern technology. It took quite a bit of doing, but I *believe* I've finally got it running decently on Windows 10 (via Steam).
When Samuel Gordon returns to his family's manor following the death of his grandfather, William, he soon discovers a series of others' actions and a strange, oppressive weight hanging over the place may have contributed to William's death . . . at least in part. Can Samuel discover enough clues during his time back to determine what *actually* happened? Let's play The Black Mirror and see whether we can avoid a similar fate.
