ELVIS [Rock 'n' Roll nº 2](RCA, LP, 1956 - LPM 1382 / CLP 1105)
*** Recorded January 30 & September 1-3, 1956 ***
"*ELVIS" (released in the UK as *"Rock n' Roll nº 2") is the second album by Elvis Presley at RCA.
It was released on RCA Victor, catalog number LPM 1382, on October 19, 1956.
Apart from "So Glad You're Mine", recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee, on January 30, 1956, the other 11 tracks of the album were taken from Elvis' sessions at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California, between September 1 and 3, 1956.
This original US release inaugurated the practice (applied inconsistently for the first few years, but commonly afterwards) of crediting Presley only by his first name on album sleeves, though his full name continued to be used on labels.
It spent four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart that year, making Presley the first recording artist to have both albums go straight to number one in the same year. It would go on to spend 5 weeks at #1 in total.
It was certified Gold on February 17, 1960, and Platinum on August 10, 2011, by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The original 1957 UK release called "Rock n' Roll nº 2", on HMV, catalog number CLP 1105, had a different front cover.
Here we bring you a brand new edit with the full 1956 album, some singles, a bonus and THE ONLY SURVIVING TAKES from the recording sessions. We hope you like it. Enjoy!
