Jaguar XJ220 is a racing game developed by British company Core Design. It was published by Sega in Europe, by JVC Musical Industries in North America, by Victor Musical Industries in Japan and by Samsung Electronics in Korea. Core Design developed the game originally for the Amiga, but the Mega-CD version had a major overhaul with redrawn graphics, additional graphics, sprite scaling and CD music.
The has similar premise as Gremlin's Lotus, featuring a single model from a renowned sports car manufacturer, in this case the eponymous Jaguar XJ220. Unlike Lotus however, the opponent's cars are from other manufacturers, only the names have been changed (e.g. Ferrino for Ferrari or Bezantti for Bugatti).
You can choose to either do a world tour or a grand prix, or you can practice any course (without opponents). There is also a two-play mode. During grand prix, you do a series of race and score points based on the position you finish on. If you reach at least the tenth place, you get points and also some money. You need the money to repair your car, as it gets damaged if you bump into things. If you cannot pay for necessary repairs, it's game over.
