Travelling on Khlong Saen Sep in Bangkok

Once upon a time Bangkok had a network of Khlongs (Cannals), in fact Bangkok was know as the Venice of the east, Khlongs were used for moving goods, produce and by the people for getting around Bangkok, over the years most of Bangkoks Khlongs have been filled in but there are still some which you can use, travelling by Khlong boat is very cheap and exciting, the Boats are very big much the same size as a Bus.
With open sides covered by plastic curtains which are drawn up by passengers to either protect from splashes as boats pass each other or dropped to allow the breeze through, you catch the Khlong boat by boarding from one of the docks scattered along the Khlong, take a seat on the wooden benches therein, once underway the ticket seller will come along the gunwale clinging to the roof rails as they go, have your small change ready, the most I have ever paid was Baht 30 or $1.30 AUS there is often a board located on the dock which has the stops listed and the cost, then sit back and enjoy the ride while you see a side of Bangkok not many other tourist do.
