Ausstattungs- und gliederungstechnisch handelt es sich beim Wachbataillon originär um einen infanteristischen Truppenteil. In dieser Eigenschaft ist es im Verteidigungsfall für die militärische Sicherung des Verteidigungsministeriums sowie der Mitglieder und Objekte der Bundesregierung verantwortlich.

The guard battalion at the Federal Ministry of Defense (WachBtl BMVg) is the association of the Federal Armed Forces, which is primarily used in the protocol-related honorary service during state visits and other state occasions. In terms of equipment and structure, the guard battalion is originally an infantry unit. It is responsible for the military security of the Ministry of Defense and the members of the Federal Government in the event of a defense.
