Sandstorm Hits Beleaguered Refugee Camp at Syria-Jordan Border

A sandstorm hit the Rukban refugee camp at the Syria-Jordan border on October 17, where residents, including children, were subsisting on sparse supplies of food and water. The last aid delivery was made in January, the United Nations said Officials at Rukban had released a statement on October 8 appealing for humanitarian aid to be allowed enter the camp. The statement claimed that Syrian government forces were preventing humanitarian aid, including formula milk and wheat, from arriving in the camp, putting the lives of refugees at risk. On October 16, the UN said the Syrian government had approved an aid delivery to the estimated 50,000 people living in the camp the following week.
