The temple to which they were referring was incredible. In those days it was the largest in the world, It was far larger than any Greek temple. It was made of white stone and covered with gold in many places. It was said that it looked incredible shining on the hill in the morning sun.
It is like looking at two mountain peaks in the distance. And with that view we cannot tell how far apart those two mountains are, we simply see what lies ahead. But in this illustration, there is a great valley in between the mountains. So, this illustrates the first advent the second advent and in between, the valley is the Church-age.
Notice nations and kingdoms. The word for nation is ἔθνος ethnos it is where we get the word ethnic. So races against races is more accurate and then nations or kingdoms against kingdoms. One of Satan’s favorite tools is to divide and then, try to conquer.
It seems clear that Yeshua is saying to us seems to be saying: Instead of looking for signs of the end, get busy and spread the good news before the end!
The followers of Yeshua should expect the rejection by some people in the lives, even family members as well as friends. It is easy for us here in America to underestimate how difficult a time of persecution can be (for now anyway).Few Christians in the Western world face persecution over their belief in and following of Yeshua. Christians in other parts of the world do indeed face these trials.
The “abomination that causes desolation” makes it clear that its fulfillment was not restricted to the events of the time of the Maccabees and Antiochus IV. That did happen prior to Yeshua saying this, nearly 200 years before this. Nor is it restricted to the event to come in 40 years from then the destruction of Jerusalem. There ..
