Space Fantasy Zone (unreleased, PC-Engine)

Space Fantasy Zone (スペースファンタジーゾーン) is a shoot'em up developed by NEC Avenue. It was almost completed but got cancelled.

After Space Harrier has defeated the aliens which attacked his part of the Fantasy Zone, they are now coming for Opa-Opa's world. Naturally, Opa-Opa won't go down without a fight.

Space Fantasy Zone blends the gameplay of Space harrier with some elements of the Fantasy Zone games. You control Opa-Opa from a third-person view and fly "into the screen", while waves of enemies draw near from the centre of the screen. You can fly and hence move freely over the screen. You have one life, but you have a number of shields. You loose a shield for each hit and only loose your life if you have run out of shields. Collisions with enemies and larger obstacles hurt you, as well as enemy fire. While the enemies in the levels are taken from Space Harrier, the bosses at the end of each stage are from the Fantasy Zone games. Shooting down enemies gives you money. After completing a stage, you enter a shop where you can buy weapons, upgrades and other stuff like new shields. Most of the items are taken from the Fantasy Zone games.
