A twitter user caught on video Africans brawling in the Smithfield area of Dublin at around 1pm on Saturday the 1st of September, 2018. nekkid_afraid said he had hurt his arm in training, lost his wallet and was waiting for a lift home in the area when the fight broke out in front of him.

Dublin council recently said a mural of Stormzy, a Grime artist, which was painted in the area had to be removed as it did not receive planning permission

Earlier in the year, in a segment on Newstalk about what it is like for Africans to grow up living in Ireland, Henry travelled to Tallaght in west Dublin to hear from the Africans themselves. Henry was told that there were many African youths who were doing amazing things in Ireland and that it was high time Ireland started to showcase it more than the negative aspects.
It appeared Henry however had not heard many negative aspects as he was surprised to learn from one African girl that rival gangs of Africans arrange to meet up in Dublin city to fight each other.
On January 5th, 2017 The Herald ran a story headlined "Terrified shoppers attacked as 250 gang rivals battle in Facebook-staged street riot". That the gang rivals were African was only hinted at in the report with the line:
"An assistant manageress of another shop said: “We heard it was all arranged on Facebook. A crowd of kids meeting up for a fight. I was very worried about leaving the shop to go home.
“I’m black and look younger than I am and I was afraid the teenagers would think I was a member of one of the gangs and attack me."
There were no radio shows about the incident.
African crime receives scant coverage in Ireland. In April, 2018, Gardaí were beaten with a baseball bat and bitten by a vicious dog when they targeted a criminal linked to suspected drugs dealers in Carrickmines but only one news report in the Independent about the assault described the gang as Nigerian.
In January of 2018, it was reported in the print edition of the Daily Star that a one hundred strong African gang rampaged through Lusk in North Dublin and smashed up property. No other media outlet reported the incident. Kevin Sharkey, who wants to run for president, mentioned the violent spree in an appearance on the Tonight Show. He said the destruction was a result of a feud with Travellers.

After the Good Friday Agreement was signed in 1998, granting the right of Irish citizenship to anyone born on the island of Ireland, pregnant women from Africa and all over the world started flying in to claim citizenship. There were so many, the maternity hospitals begged the government to do something. In 2004, the government held a referendum on birth-right citizenship in which almost 80% voted against it. 3.3% of 10-14 year olds described themselves as African in the 2016 census.
