As an early software developer, I found it challenging to grasp the concepts of a development environment. Everything I needed was just handed to me; I didn't know what was going on under the hood. As it turns out, it was a lot. As I grew older and was involved in more software development projects, the picture of how code is run on a computer became more clear. In the early stages instructors try to automate a lot of this to keep it simple so you can focus on the "Hello World" program in order to become familiar with the code syntax.
A lot more is going on. For 90% of your projects (at least starting out) you'll need just an IDE (editor), compiler, and runtime environment to take human-like code to compile and run in what the computer understands (binary).
This video is intended for beginning programmers, but some more advanced programmers may get some insight as well.
