ALONE IN THE FOREST

You’re all alone in the forest. What do you see? Is that a squirrel up in the tree? You are finally free.

Lost among the dense pine trees
an eerie mist consumes the night,
and hides my path from Luna’s light
as air is thick without a breeze.

I feel an angst I can’t deny
while searching clues upon the ground;
I hear a distant muffled sound
perhaps an owl as lost as I.

Why do I feel alone and lost
and desperate to find my way;
with sanity I’ve paid the cost
to find the freedom dreams convey.
I’ll leave behind the bridges crossed,
and in lush meadows I will play.
