Episode 3: Biagio and Teresa have married, and have a baby (Antonio) at the beginning of the episode. Simultaneously Riina and his fellow mafiosi - Provenzano, Bagarella and two other men, soldiers of Tano Badalamenti, boss of Cinisi - enter the offices of Michele Cavataio dressed with uniforms of the Guardia di Finanza. The aim of the attack is to assassinate Michele Cavataio, who had earlier killed Salvatore La Barbera.
One of Badalamenti's henchmen, nervously lets his gun fire, killing two men and triggering a massacre - no longer under cover, they have to murder five others before reaching Cavataio. Following a spree of bullets, Cavataio feigns death until Totò and Calogero enter, when he turns and shoots, hitting and killing Bagarella. Enraged, Provenzano responds by beating Cavataio to death with the butt of his gun (See "Viale Lazio massacre" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viale_Lazio_massacre).

Differences with historical events: Another difference concerns the Viale Lazio massacre, since in reality Salvatore Riina remained in a car to coordinate the operation. Furthermore, the assassination of Michele Cavataio was commissioned, by mutual agreement, by Stefano Bontate, Gaetano Badalamenti, Giuseppe Di Cristina and Luciano Liggio (the series, however, suggests that it was the Corleonesi and Badalamenti who ordered the murder, going against the will of the other heads of the family).
Also, this episode, after the Viale Lazio massacre, the leaders meet and Buscetta proposes to form a new Commission. In reality the proposal was presented by Giuseppe Calderone in 1975. At the end of the third episode Riina has Di Cristina and Calderone murdered. The latter is killed by Vito Maranza disguised as a waiter in a resort; in reality Calderone was lured by Nitto Santapaola and Salvatore Ferrera (men whom Calderone trusted, but who were allied with the Corleonesi) to Aci Castello. Here Calderone and his driver fell into an ambush where they were seriously injured. Calderone died in hospital a few days later due to serious injuries, on 8 September 1978.
