Dungeons & Dragon - Warriors of the Eternal Sun is an RPG which was developed by Westwood and published by Sega. It is set in D&D's Mystara. Goblins are attacking the land of Duke Hector Barrik and, after 13 months of war, are about to overrun the Duke's castle. However, before the goblins can start their final assault, the earth shakes, the sky rips open and both men and goblins are sucked in the void and transported into another world. The Duke, his followers and the castle end up in a strange valley which is completely surrounded by steep cliffs and constantly bathed in light from a crimson sun that never sets. The Duke summons your party and sends you out to find allies in this savage, new world.
You control a party of up to four characters. You can either characters on your own or start with a default party.
There are two types of gameplay. While exploring the world, the game uses a slightly isometric perspective similar to Ultima VI or VII. Apart from scripted fights, encounters are random (though can you can see an enemy sprite approaching and try to run away, adjust your position or at least use some long-range weapons) and battles are turn-based. When you enter a dungeon, the game switches to a first-person view similar to Westwood's own Eye of the Beholder. Enemies are always displayed in the dungeon, and movement and battles are in real-time.
