West Creek incorporated as a town in 1896, becoming the second official town in Douglas County. Gold rush rumors spread and the population of West Creek doubled to 2000 residents. The residents of West Creek started rumors of the potential gold in their mines and began asking investors to finance their mining efforts. After receiving the funding only a few nuggets of gold were discovered causing many of the residents to move on to other towns.
