The Jewish interpretation of the scriptures is racial instead of spiritual. Jews are chosen by God not for being upright spiritually but instead for belonging to God's chosen race. You also have lots of Jew-ish people feeling very special for having Jew DNA.

Is this to say our biological bodies reflect our spirits? I'm asking because I'm spiritually very different from my biological family, and I've read countless cases exclaiming the same. This is why the Christian approach makes more sense to me, where one is chosen by God based on spirit, which isn't a function of genes.
