Written by Klaus Kleinau, sung by the Botho Lucas Choir. Appeared in 1962 on the album "Danke".
Botho Lucas (1923–2012) founded the Lucas Quartet in 1958, which later became the Botho Lucas Choir in 1961, with changing members. "Danke für diesen guten Morgen" (Thank you for this good morning) was the first unexpected success for the Botho Lucas Choir in 1962. In the following year the choir produced two long-playing records with other modern, christian titles.
The repertoire of the choir was extraordinarily varied. It included modern arrangements of folk songs, operettas, musicals and hits. I would particularly like to mention the 1963 album "Die Landsknechtstrommel" with well-known Landsknechts, hiking and scout songs.
Enhlish Translation:
I walk along my dark road
And beat the drum on my way.
I ask the dark street,
I keep asking all the time.
I ask today and tomorrow,
And the drum's beat leads the way.
I will beat it today and tomorrow,
My brother, my brother, come with me!
Chorus:
Stop, my brother!
Turn back, my brother
And head back down the street.
I know a path that will lead you, my brother,
that will lead you to great happiness.
Come along, take my hand and don't waste time
As long as you are on earth.
The Lord is God and he accompanies us,
For he became our brother, became our brother
In the name of Jesus Christ.
Oh, brother, the street is dark,
And my face is dark, too.
Oh, brother, you don't know the road
And you don't know the dirt and the tears.
You don't hear the beat of the drum,
And the drum's beat leads the way.
My path is the dark road
Oh, brother, and no one walks with me!
