After a brutal fight on a helicopter Hisako managed to activate the device disabling the machines, but the final boss for some reason had a biological brain and while challenging he wasn't anything special. You get the expected happy ending as Hisako goes to school on the surface with all the people she saved (even the mutant).
Overall I had fun with this title. The combat mechanics are decent and there's good enemy variety. There's some interesting challenges and level design, but sometimes the platforming it requires doesn't fit well with the floaty jump. The different weapons are interesting, but considering how much money you put into upgrading your current equipment, you tend to stick with what you know best. The modding is a bit random, but the attachments can usually help you achieve your desired build.
The game is soaked with Japanese culture and I love it for it - you will learn some interesting trivia while finding different items. I also really like the characters you save - they are quirky and one can see how they can be useful in rebuilding society. The story starts somewhat dumb and while there are some absurd moments in there, I was actually surprised how creative it was and how many interesting themes it presents. Hisako is an OK character with the dumb relentless optimism of a shonen protagonist - at times her "power of friendship" speeches were a bit much, but she's tolerable.
While the game lacks polish in some places it has enough interesting ideas, so I would definitely recommend it to fans of hack and slash games.
