Joking soldier's song, author unknown, written around 1880. Sung to the melody of an older folk song ("I am a jolly huntsman").
Band (Teil 1) 1896 A1295-1a.
Text:
Ich bin ein lust'ger Musketier
Und niemals meinen Mut verlier
Ich diene meiner Fahne treu
und lieb' mein Mädchen auch dabei
Refrain:
juchheidi, juchheida, juchheidi, heidalala
juchheidi, juchheida, juchheidi, heida
Des Morgens wenn ich früh aufsteh
und zum exerzieren geh
Ja dann beschau ich erst vorher
meinen Säbel und Gewehr
Unser Hauptmann der ist gut
Wenn man seinen willen tut
Aber hat man was verbrochen
wird man gleich ins Loch gestochen
Auf dem Marsch ein muntres Lied
Aus der Flasch nen tüchtigen Hieb
Der uns durch die Kehle pfeift
macht uns das Marschieren leicht
Kommen wir dann ins Quartier
Haben wir gut Wein und Bier
Und ein Mädchen in dem Arm
wird ein Musketier erst warm
Liegen wir dann in dem Bett
Schnarchen alle um die Wett
Hört man aus der ferne schon
Des Hornisten heitern Ton
English translation:
I am a funny musketeer
And never lose my courage
I serve my flag faithfully
and love my girl too
In the morning when I get up early
and go to exercise
Yes, then I'll look first
after my saber and rifle
Our captain is good
If you do his will
But if you do something wrong
you will be put straight into the hole
A lively song on the march
A big swig from the bottle
that whistles through our throats
makes marching easy for us
Then we come to the quarters
We have good wine and beer
And a girl in our arms
Makes a musketeer gets warmed up
Then we lie in bed
We snore in competition
You can hear it from afar
The horn player's cheerful tone
