I want to drown in a sea of wine)
Ein Lied der Mittelalter-Folk-Band Versengold aus Bremen. A song by the medieval folk band Versengold from Bremen.
English translation below. Album: Hoerensagen
Text:
Gestern ließ mich meiner Herr schon wieder schuften
Doch hatte wohl die Gute was dagegen
Gestern ließ mich starker Husten wieder schmerzen
English translation:
Yesterday my master let me work again
In the field and in the meadow at hot lunchtime
In yellowish and already half-decomposed clothes
Up to the knee in the dirt and far from humanity
My wages are bread and water from the puddles
And a copper coin every day
I am supposed to support piety with it
But I prefer to save money for the tavern
Refrain:
I want to drown in a sea of wine
Sink into cheerfulness and pensiveness
Drowning in the glow lets the burden be forgotten
And it lightly remove the pale worry mask
Cursed be all the pain we drown it in the wine
And us and them and everyone who annoys us
Yesterday the beautiful maid was on my way
I asked her heartily up to me in the hay
But the good woman had something against it
Well, unfortunately she is pretty but a little shy
The maids here, the others who live here
I did already scare everyone
They think a servant wouldn't be worth it
Then I'll have to take the tavern maid again
Yesterday, a strong cough made me hurt again
The limbs are already weak and so sore
The stitches in the chest come probably from the heart
And they tell me all the years of my life
The hair and beard have long been tangled
And I haven't seen a washtub in a long time
But my courage to live is still not lost
I can go to the tavern again soon
