To my shame I got stuck on one of those crystal arranging puzzles. Eventually I managed to solve it (skip to 57:40 if you don't want to watch me struggle) and got a legendary sub-weapon out of it. After completing the levels I cleared it my inventory and found out that quite a few legendary weapons now appear in the storage, which means you can get them even if you die. Not sure how this happened since I hadn't mastered all of them, but still. In fact I'm not sure if mastering a weapon does anything since the stats don't seem to change.
