Text:
Was kratzt da am Genick?
---
English Translation:
What can I do about it? So close to my door
they caught me and soon my suffering will end.
I was never lucky, my desolate destiny
did not affect any of you, yes today I must die.
Chorus:
When the fog descends on the moor, Piet hangs on the gallows.
They took my shoes and also my coat
They tied my hands and my house burned down.
I saw the gallows standing, they forced me to go.
They wanted my death, no one helped me in need.
What's scratching my neck? I feel the rough rope.
A monk prays there and speaks pious words for me.
The words that I don't know, who should have taught them to me?
Five ravens fly along, but I don't see them anymore.
