WOODWORKING…MAKING A SIMPLE PROJECT FOR A GIFT.

About 4 days before her cousin arrived for a visit, my wife asked me to make her a cutting board for her new home, but she wanted it personalized. I am fortunate as a couple of years ago I purchased a 3018 pro CNC machine. The machine works great, but it’s limited in size as to projects. I had to engrave before assembly. It’s made of 2 scrap pieces of walnut and one of maple. Assembly is very straight forward, making sure the edges match before glue up. The handle design(wife) went through several prototypes before final approval.
I make my own butcher block compound…here is the recipe:
3 parts pure beeswax
1 part food grade mineral oil
Process
In a DOUBLE BOILER mix the two ingredients in very low heat until the beeswax melts and the mineral oil is thoroughly incorporated which means CONTINUOUS MIXING THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS. It should be no more that 8 to 10 minutes.
Pour the contents into a shallow container ( I used 4 oz Mason jars) set aside and let it cool. This mixture works for me. However 3 parts beeswax and 2 parts mineral oil with flow easier. Your choice.
