Beholgar - Playthrough Part 5 (Ending)

Beholgar met a dragon asking for help. You find a key to Snake Castle - an underground level where a lot of enemies apply poison to you and as previously stated that's the most dangerous thing to have since you rarely have an antidote on you. Here I found Khuldur's Sword, which is a flaming sword with damage and speed. The only advantage the Dragon Sword has is reach, so I stuck with it. Predictably the boss here is a giant snake. It breathes fire and you have a limited opportunity to do damage, so it's more of a survival battle. Utilising the fire sword here led to to victory since you can do more damage in a shorter amount of time. Then you meet the Naga queen, who initially wants to kill you for murdering a bunch of her snakes, but then when she learns that Hagma has cursed her dragon she gives you a potion to restore it and help you fly to the tower of the sorcerer. After some backtracking this happens and you face the source of the corruption of your land. He throws a lot of projectiles your way, but isn't too difficult as long as you learn where are the safe zones and avoid the spikes coming out of the ground from time to time. Switching between the Dragon Sword to reach him while he's flying and Khuldur's Sword when he's on the ground for maximum damage helps end the battle quicker. Then you get a generic happy ending and the game is over.

Beholgar is a pretty cool throwback to classics like Castlevania with some light Metroidvania elements. The combat is pretty good and the controls are responsive, but the platforming is a bit clunky and will be the thing that kills you the most thanks to brutal level design from time to time. That aside the enemy variety is great and the boss battles are challenging, but fair. The story is just there, but it definitely channels Conan the Barbarian, so that's nice. If you are fan of old Castlevania games, I'd say that this is worth a try.
