Wir sind durch Deutschland gefahren - German Patriotic Hiking Song
English translation below.

1.
Wir sind durch Deutschland gefahren,
vom Meer bis zum Alpenschnee,
wir haben noch Wind in den Haaren,
den Wind von den Bergen und Seen.
2.
In den Ohren das Brausen der Ströme,
der Wälder raunender Sang,
das Geläut von den Glocken der Dome,
der Felder Lerchengesang.
3.
In den Augen das Leuchten der Sterne,
das Flimmern der Heide Sonnenglut.
Und tief in der Seele das Ferne,
das Sehnen, das nimmermehr ruht.
4.
Und du, Kamerad, mir zur Seite,
so fahren wir durch das Land,
wir fahren die Läng' und die Breite
durch Regen und Sonnenbrand.
5.
Wir sind durch Deutschland gefahren
Vom Meer bis zum Alpenschnee,
Wir werden noch weiter fahren
Um neue Lande zu sehn.
Text und Musik: Verfasser unbekannt, mündlich überliefert – Wandervogel, Bündische Jugend
The exact origin of the text and melody is not known. It is assumed that music and text, like other songs of the youth movement,
were made by different people. Folk song research assumes that the song was created around 1930 because of the content.
Since then the song is still sung on trips, group meetings or around the campfire. The exception to this is the period of National Socialism in Germany, in which the piece was completely banned from all song books. After the end of the war it became more and more popular, it was published in the German song book "Die Mundorgel" in 1953 and since then by some well-known interpreters published such as Heino.
English translation:
1. We drove through Germany
from the sea to alpine snow,
we still have wind in our hair
the wind from the mountains and lakes.
2.The roar of the rivers in the ears,
the murmuring song of the forest
the ringing of the bells of the cathedrals,
the singing of the larks in the fields.
3. In the eyes the glow of the stars
the flickering sun's glow of the heath .
And deep in the soul, in the distance
the longing that never rests.
4. And you, comrade, at my side,
so we drive through the country
we drive the length and the width
through rain and sunburn.
5. We drove through Germany
From the sea to alpine snow,
We'll keep going
To see new countries.
